We all want love, but it’s hard to find healthy love without first loving yourself. It’s important to have a sense of who we are, what we need, and to know that we bring to the table. How do we go about this? By spending time with ourselves.

Self-discovery can be achieved in a lot of ways-therapy, travel, the natural process of going through life. But there’s also a way you can do this from the comfort of your own home.

Journaling!

Journaling can be one of the greatest gifts. Why?

  1. It's self care-I often tell my clients to romanticize it-do a face mask, light a candle, turn on Spotify, bring out the old gel pens- treat it as a date with yourself.

  2. It let's you explore your thoughts, feelings, and needs-which helps you process and feel more connected to yourself.

  3. It's a great way to witness your growth over the years. Something I’ve found in my own self-growth (and that of many of my clients) is that journaling captures snapshots of our lives, and it can be so rewarding to read back and see all of the ways in which you’ve grown.

Sometimes it can feel challenging to know where to start-especially if you are on a new journey, trying to reconnect with yourself after a period of pause. But that's okay, I've got you covered. Below you will find a list of different prompts that will allow you to deepen your awareness and sense of connection to yourself. SO-grab a cute notebook, light a candle, put on some music, and start journaling.

Happy writing! And feel free to reach out if you're finding there are things you'd like support in processing in a therapeutic setting. :)

1. What do I love about myself? If this feels challenging, what do you imagine a close friend or family member or mentor might say about you?

2. What is something I'm proud of? Did I achieve something, make a bold move, or show an act of kindness toward someone? Talk about it, and explore what it feels like to acknowledge it.

3. What excites me right now? If I am having a hard time identifying this, what is something that has lit my soul on fire in the past, and why do I think that is? What does/did that thing bring to my life?

4. Where do I feel most at home? What makes it that way?

5. What song/show/character do I feel I most relate to at this exact moment in my life? Why is that?

6. What makes me feel the greatest sense of peace? Is it something I can give myself?

7. How do I feel loved? How do I like to show love towards others? How do I know when I am in love?

8. How have I grown from past relationships?

9. What do I need to let go of to move forward?

10. Who are some people who inspire me, and why do they inspire me?

11. What do I think is stopping me from getting what I want in life?

12. What do I need more of in my life right now? More love, connection, creativity, or something else?

13. What are 5 things that oftentimes make me feel better on a hard day?

14. What is the biggest risk I've ever taken? Does it feel worth it? What holds me back from making other risks?

15.  What is one belief that may be holding me back in life, and how can I challenge it?

16. Who can I be vulnerable with, and why do they help me feel safe enough to open up to them?

17. How has social media impacted my self-love journey?

18. How can I show more compassion towards myself and others today than yesterday?
